About This Program

Work can open many doors. TCS Employment Services supports individuals with diverse abilities to prepare for and find paid work. Before starting a job search, individuals can build workplace skills such as timekeeping, attendance, communication, customer service, and health and safety.

Our goal is simple. Real jobs in real workplaces with real pay. We also work with employers who want to create more inclusive workplaces and welcome employees with diverse abilities.

Who This Program Supports

Some people come to this program with clear job goals. Others are still exploring what kind of work might feel right.

You might benefit from this program if you:

  • Want to find a job in your community
  • Want to build skills that will help you succeed at work
  • Need support preparing for interviews or connecting with employers
  • Want help understanding what type of work fits your interests and strengths
  • Have been referred through Community Living BC or are interested in exploring employment opportunities

What Support Can Look Like

Support is practical, flexible, and focused on real workplace experiences.

Some examples of what support may include:

  • Learning workplace basics such as attendance, timekeeping, and communication
  • Creating or updating a resume
  • Exploring different types of jobs and workplaces
  • Practicing interview skills
  • Learning how to approach employers and introduce yourself
  • Participating in Job Club or other learning sessions
  • Job search support and identifying potential employers
  • On site job coaching when starting a new position
  • Help building natural supports in the workplace
  • Support with workplace safety and expectations
  • Gradual transition to independent work with reduced support over time

Our Approach

We take time to understand each person’s interests and strengths. Employment Discovery helps us explore the kinds of work that might be a good fit. From there, we build a plan together. Vocational Counsellors support individuals to build skills, work through barriers, and prepare for the job search.

We move at a pace that feels manageable. We also work with employers to help create roles that work for both the individual and the workplace. Respect and collaboration guide every step.

Program Details

Employment services usually begin with interest from the individual or through a referral from Community Living BC.

Once interest is expressed, meetings are arranged with the individual, caregivers if appropriate, and the employment team to discuss goals and eligibility.

Employment Discovery is a planning process that helps us understand a person’s interests, strengths, and work preferences. This helps guide the job search so it focuses on opportunities that feel meaningful and realistic.

We ask individuals to sign a Participation Agreement to make roles and expectations clear.

Participation can include attending meetings, taking part in training, and working toward employment goals.

If challenges come up, the team works with the individual to find solutions and stay on track.

Vocational Counsellors work closely with both the individual and potential employers.

They may help:

  • Identify barriers to employment and develop strategies to address them
  • Create resumes and prepare for interviews
  • Connect with potential employers
  • Adapt job tasks to better match the individual’s strengths
  • Support workplace safety and communication
  • Provide on site support during the early stages of employment
  • Support can gradually reduce over time as confidence and independence grow.

Vocational Counsellors remain available to support both the individual and the employer, as needed. This might include on the job workplace coaching, problem solving, or helping identify natural supports in the workplace.

Building an inclusive workplace starts with small, thoughtful steps.

At TCS, we work alongside employers who are interested in creating opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities. We take time to understand your workplace, your team, and your needs so we can help find a strong match.

Our team provides support throughout the process. This may include identifying suitable candidates, helping shape job roles, and offering on-site support during onboarding. We stay available as a resource for both you and your employee, so you are not navigating this alone.

Inclusive workplaces often see stronger team culture, improved retention, and deeper connections with their community.

If you are curious about what this could look like in your workplace, we are here to have that conversation.

If you are interested in employment support, we would be glad to talk with you.

The first step is usually a referral through Community Living BC, but if you are unsure how the process works, you can still reach out to us.

We can help explain the pathway and answer your questions.
